The Songs of Joel B. New, Volume II
24 selections from shows, concerts, and the trunk
Published in 2025, this second digital songbook spans nearly a decade of work since Volume I. By now, NYC composer-lyricist Joel B. New had twenty years in the city under his belt, with a catalog that had grown bolder, queerer, funnier, and more expansive. These 24 songs trace that journey — from experimental podcast premieres and concert commissions, to a full holiday musical, a Lincolnian love-hate parody, and a hat-fueled feminist fantasia. Volume II reflects an artist who has found his voice and is unafraid to stretch it, while still embracing the misfits, oddballs, and chosen families that define his work.
Selections include:
“Something New” Podcast (2016): The Night Café
MuseMatch Concert Series (2016): The Ballad of the Cluck Cluck Sisters, Sam-I-Am
Cabot Cove EP (2016): Cabot Cove, The Corpse Danced at Midnight, Dirge for a Dead Dachshund, Goodbye, Charlie, Murder in a Minor Key
Monkey Trouble Unleashed! (2019): It Could Be So Much Worse, Don’t Make a Monkey Out of Me, Welcome to My Deathmatch, (Help Me) Move This Body
Undertaking Christmas (2020): All I Want for Christmas Is a Boyfriend for My Dad, Backroll Cole, Death and Taxes and Christmas and You, Let It Out!
Tempting Mr. Lincoln (2022): Borrowed Horse, The More That You Say, Let Me Be Your Beard, Presidential
R.E.D. Hat Fight Club (2023): Old Hat / Why Fight It?, Over the Edge, A Completely Different Person or Something, Why Are You Hitting Yourself?
With its mix of unexpected audition cuts, heartfelt ballads, and sharply comedic showstoppers, Volume II offers performers a fresh collection of material that’s both resonant and ready to play. Includes voice/piano sheet music suitable for auditions, cabaret, classrooms, and live performance.
The sheet music is available in the following keys/versions: .
