Zach is a composer, pianist, arranger, copyist, musicologist and musical director based in New York City. As a musicologist, Zach's research and study of Auschwitz victim Marcel Tyberg's life and music has culminated in five world premiers by the Buffalo Philharmonic and two distinguished grants (NYU's Collaborative Arts Grant and support from the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies). Most recently, this past fall (2012), Zach helped prepare for the European premier of the 2nd Symphony with Maestra JoAnn Faletta.

Zach works as a vocal coach and accompanist for students at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Education and Tisch School of the Arts. Zach is also adjunct faculty at NYU teaching courses at both Tisch and Steinhardt. Zach has taught for Opera America in New York and Fargo and conducted orchestras in South Carolina and Argentina. He has also worked as a copyist for Kaye/Houston Music, Mark Bennet, BD Wong, Stephen Flaherty, Stephen Sondheim, Ricky Ian Gordon, Mel Marvin, Lynne Shankel, August Eriksmoen, the Buffalo Philharmonic and Bachovich Music Publishers among others.

In the summer of 2011 Zach spent two weeks in residence at the Virginia Arts Festival John Duffy Institute studying with David Lang, John Musto, Libby Larsen, Michael Korie and Mark Campbell and developing "Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner" (librettist Sara Copper) for a production at NYU in 2012. Last year, Zach was in residence at American Opera Projects as part of their "Composers and the Voice Program" under the guidance of Maestro Stephen Osgood. The residency has culminated in the composition of six monodramas ("Windows"), a set of Whitman songs, most recently performed at Sarasota Opera, and a new chamber opera "Male Identity." Currently, he and librettist Sara Cooper are Van Lier Fellows at American Opera Projects where they plan to further develop "Windows" and start work on a new larger opera for production in 2013-15. Zach and librettist Royce Vavrek (Dog Days) recently began to collaborate presenting a new work at the National Opera Center in December 2012. Zach was also recently commissioned by Opera Memphis to write a 15 minute opera for their 2013/14 season. Zach's art songs are performed at colleges throughout the country and plans are underway for commercial publication and recording. Zach's music has been performed at Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, Opera America National Opera Center, Joe's Pub and concert halls around the country and has been critically acclaimed by the New York Times, Variety and the Boston Globe.
